Shawn   Pratt

Aviation History

Shawn was introduced to flying in the mid '70s by his father who would rent float planes to fly the family around their home in Sitka, Alaska. Later while serving in the U.S. Navy, Shawn got back into flying and over the span of a number of years acquired his Commercial Certificate with airplane single-engine land, seaplane and multi-engine ratings, Flight Instructor (Gold Seal) with Instrument and Multi-engine ratings, and Ground Instructor Advanced/Instrument. Shawn has been heavily involved in aviation education and management since the late 1990s serving as Chairman of an airport commission, starting up a successful flight school and FBO, and serving as the Vice President, General Manager, and Chief Instructor for Northwest Aviation College.

Goals & Accomplishments

Since getting his Private Pilot Certificate in 1990, Shawn has helped develop and teach aviation training programs for numerous high schools and colleges ranging from Virginia to Washington State. He was instrumental in saving an airport in Virginia from pending closure. He has had training articles published in NAFI's "Mentor" magazine, AOPA online, and been a speaker at a number of aviation events. Shawn's goal is to continue to support the growth of the aviation community, and ensure it is supplied with safe, competent, and proficient pilots.

Interests & Hobbies

When he's not instructing and flying, Shawn enjoys hanging out with his wife and son boating around the Puget Sound. Additionally, he is a professional guitarist playing nearly every weekend around the Puget Sound (and with the Argosy Cruiseline, sometimes "on it"!) in a successful Top 40 Rock Band called "Northwest Chill" - shameless plug.
